Today I’m happy to introduce Patricia Reid and interview her about her book: Flying with the Rich and Famous: True Stories from the Flight Attendant who flew with them. Patricia, how are you doing?

Patricia Reid:

Very Well, thank you for having me today.

Isaac:

It’s our pleasure! Now this book details your personal stories as a flight attendant who worked on corporate flights and jets – what made you want to write a book about all of your encounters with the rich and famous?

Patricia Reid:

All my life, people have asked me “What’s it like to fly on a private jet?” So when I got foot surgery (From flying around the world in high heels) I decided to answer that ever asked question!

Isaac:

Oh wow, I guess all that time on your feet really came back to haunt you, how long were you in the industry for? Would you say it was all in all a good experience (besides the foot surgery of course)?

Patricia Reid:

25 years and yes, it was AMAZING! I was able to travel around the world with the Rich and Famous! Everyday was different and exciting ! I couldn’t wait to get to the airport- I usually never knew who I was flying and sometimes didn’t even know where! – Well I would know where but everything changes in this industry – so you never really know until you’re there.

Isaac:

Right, I’m sure it really kept you on your toes! In general how would you describe the people you met? Did any surprise you? And did you ever feel intimidated being around such people?

Patricia Reid:

I’d say 88% of them were happy go lucky, I mean they’re on a private jet, why would they be in a bad mood? The other 12% were jerks. The entitled-type, they were demanding as heck. The type you can never please. And yes, I was intimidated when I was young and first started, but I got over that as I got more comfortable and savvy with each flight… Elizabeth Taylor surprised me, she was very elegant in all her celebrity. Very gracious and kind. Very elegant. On the flip side, Dianna Ross was cold as ice and a total diva.

Well you can never please everyone right? Its good to know that many were not the ‘entitled’ type. I see you mentioned actual names, in your book do you always use names or is there some anonymity?

Patricia Reid:

Yes, there are those people in the world that are always going to treat people beneath them inferior. That will never change I’m sure! Yes I used actual names. Like Jack Nicholson, Rod Stewart, Tom Cruise, Julie Andrews, President Reagan and many more. But some people I didn’t name because I thought it was inappropriate or in bad taste.

It’s more of a fun, upbeat read. I wanted to keep it light and funny. Because that’s how it was when I was flying, at least to me. I had a great time and I wasn’t going to let one bad apple spoil it for me!

 Isaac:

Thats an excellent way to look at things! Did you encounter any issues with publishing these stories from the celebrities, I know many are very private and guarded.

Patricia Reid:

Not so far! I messaged Jack Nicholson on Facebook and he liked my page, so I would say that he liked his story. I haven’t heard from anyone else, but I told them about it, if they have a social media account. And by the way, that was the real Jack Nicholson – if you do enough research, you can tell which accounts are real.

Isaac:

Thats pretty impressive, its not everyday Jack Nicholson likes your page. Over your career as a stewardess, what do you think was the most important lesson you learned from interacting from the rich and famous? Is it a lesson you try to pass on to readers?

Patricia Reid:

That’s easy. Treat everyone the same. Whether the busboy or the owner of the restaurant, everyone has struggles in their lives that we aren’t privy to. Be kind, be nice, be gracious and smile.

Isaac:

A great way to act, one that the world would benefit from if everyone followed it, no doubt. Winding down the interview, if you had an interested reader and could only tell them one reason to buy your book – what would it be?

Patricia Reid:

That it has never been told. It’s a new genre – no one knows what the flight attendant on a Private Jet goes through, let alone that they exist! It’s just a fun read.

Isaac:

Certainly, and everyone loves hearing about what celebrities are like behind closed doors! One last question: Who was your favourite person to travel with? I know you mentioned Elizabeth Taylor, was there someone you enjoyed the company of even more?

Patricia Reid:

I adored Jack Nicholson the most but I also adored Rod Stewart and Tom Cruise! Plus Dionne Warwick, oh and Dom Deluise was hilarious. But then I had the unbelievable opportunity to fly Dean Martin and I adore him. I guess I liked them all! Oh and the LA Kings – I flew them for an entire season right after we “bought” Wayne Gretzky from the Edmonton Oilers. Now that was a really fun time in my life!

Isaac:
